Eliminate ‘Time Fraud’ With HandPunch Time Clock
We’ve all been there before. Your pal at work has to leave early to pick up his kids from the soccer game, and he asks you to punch the time clock for him.
Naturally, you want to help out, so you sign him out using his employee ID. It’s not like he asks you all the time and slips out every chance he gets without the boss knowing. No harm done.
Not anymore. Companies are cracking down on what is now often described as “buddy punching” or “time fraud”. Enter the HandPunch series of time clocks developed by Ingersoll Rand. This device allows company executives to keep control of their employee’s attendance and thus, work productivity, with a simple scan of the hand.
The HandPunch recognizes an employee in less than a second. The interesting thing is that the actual handprint is not used for identification, only the shape of the hand. It’s a less complicated method than scanning prints I imagine and just as effective, since if you think about it our own fingers have unique lengths that can’t be compared with someone else’s.
The built-in hand recognition memory, which is powered by a lithium battery, has a lifespan of five years. The HandPunch operates with a standard electrical power supply.
Four models of HandPunch time clocks are offered, each of which caters to a company’s size and also on the number of features the product offers. The HandPunch 1000-E is an entry-level model that caters to businesses with less than 100 employees, and basically keeps score of when a worker punches in and out.
The HandPunch 3000 and 4000 time clocks can do a lot more, like keeping track of employee work schedules so that overtime can’t be counted for a person that isn’t supposed to work longer than he or she should. There’s also a way with a push of a button to collect employee-specific information, such as earned tips. Employees can also review when they punched in and out during the week. Then there is the flagship HandPunch 4000-S which includes a barcode scanner.
